Largo 2s went in search of a first away victory of the season away to Livingston's 2nd XI who comprehensively beat Largo earlier in the year by 10 wickets at East Drive. Against a much changed side however, Largo's 9 men captained by Murray Sneddon won the toss and elected to field hoping to get the best of the conditions after some overnight rain.
Largo opened with Bentley and Blake and finally Bentley managed to get in to the wicket column this season with firstly Robinson taking a good catch at cover, followed by captain Sneddon also making a clean catch after a bobble to leave the home side 7/2 in the 6th over. A partnership though would follow to get Livingston back in the game with Collings joining Awasthi with the later finding the boundary with increasing regularity taking advantage of anything loose from the depleted Largo side. Awasthi would though depart for 29 with Dan Wood getting an LBW decision and with 20 overs gone Livingston were 70/3.
Captain Sneddon would join the attack after the break in the hot and humid conditions but it was Robinson who deservedly made the breakthrough again for Largo with Allan behind the stumps taking 2 caught behinds, the later a great reaction catch off the batsman's foot to leave Livingston 95/5 and Largo with hope of bowling a side out for the first time this season. Livingston would rally from here however until the 35th over when the introduction of Bentley again to the attack sparked a collapse from 142/5 to 165 all out with Bentley getting both set batsman Collings (46) and Jaffar (29) out caught to finish with figures of 4/12 before Sneddon cleaned up the tail to bowl out the home side in one of the best all round performances from the 2s in the field all season.
In reply Largo opened with Robinson and the in-form Jamie Gillin and looked to be laying a solid platform before in the 9th over Gillin missed a straight one and had to be given out plumb LBW by his dad umpiring to leave Largo 26/1. Robinson though was looking in fine form and was pushing the score along rapidly by himself but was being let down by his partners as firstly Sneddon (2) was caught at mid wicket before Bentley in a repeat of his dismissal last week was bowled for just 1.
In the 19th over despite the lack of help Robinson had pushed the score to 55 before he finally was able to get a partnership together with the incoming Blake at number 5. Both were taking advantage of the good batting conditions against the home side's change bowlers with Blake outscoring Robinson with his big hitting straight down the ground in a partnership that looked to have Largo on top with 10 overs to go and just 48 runs required. Sadly for the Largo side however it was not to be as with the dismissal of Blake for 41, bowled by Collings, the scoring rate for the incoming batsman would prove too much and with Robinson caught well on the boundary for 70, Largo came up 32 runs short of victory.
The result for the Largo side would prove to be a disappointing one but it was in general a good all around performance from the side and a game played in a great spirit throughout which was appreciated by all involved. Largo will go searching again for another much needed victory next week at home against Murrayfield DAFS 3s.
